This book was originally published prior to 1923, and represents a reproduction of an important historical work, maintaining the same format as the original work. While some publishers have opted to apply OCR (optical character recognition) technology to the process, we believe this leads to sub-optimal results (frequent typographical errors, strange characters and confusing formatting) and does not adequately preserve the historical character of the original artifact. We believe this work is culturally important in its original archival form. While we strive to adequately clean and digitally enhance the original work, there are occasionally instances where imperfections such as blurred or missing pages, poor pictures or errant marks may have been introduced due to either the quality of the original work or the scanning process itself. Despite these occasional imperfections, we have brought it back into print as part of our ongoing global book preservation commitment, providing customers with access to the best possible historical reprints. We appreciate your understanding of these occasional imperfections, and sincerely hope you enjoy seeing the book in a format as close as possible to that intended by the original publisher.

Exploring space with a camera Edgar M Cortright United States National Aeronautics and Space Administration Books Reviews
Nice condition vintage book.
NASA published this book in 1968 as NASA Special Publication SP-168 to commemorate 10 years of photography from space and it became one of the best selling books ever published by the agency. At the time, this collection of photographs was considered the best photographs taken from space. Unlike the many other books which show rockets launches, astronauts and the like, the book shows the view from space as seen through the eyes of cameras in the eerie solitude of space-orbiting hundreds or thousands of miles above the Earth's surface, swooping low over heretofore unseen mountains and craters of the Moon, resting gently on the lunar plains, and gliding silently past the red planet Mars. Some of the photos were taken by astronauts, while others were taken by robotic probes.
The book is divided into three sections. The first section focuses on Earth's atmosphere and how space photograph has been used to better understand weather, something we take for granted today. The next section is dedicated to robotic exploration. Only two celestial bodies are presented, the Moon and Mars, because by 1968, these two objects were the only ones visited by camera carrying probes. The final section contains astronaut photography and is the only section in color.
While the book and its pictures may seem very dated, especially when compared to number and quality of photographs available today, this classic NASA photography book brings to life the excitement of NASA's beginnings and the reasons why space exploration is important to all of humanity.
Really enjoy this book. Lots of great photos. I like the older style NASA logo on the cover.
